Beach Eco Toilet

Working Towards a Better Tomorrow

In a first, mobile vacuum toilets installed by Samatech at Girgaum Chowpatty which sees heavy footfalls during the festival of Ganesh Visarjan. Two such toilets were installed to save the beach from directly getting affected by sewage. Toilet designed by architect Tanya Singh, uses vacuum sanitation technology and has an in-built storage system which collects and stores sewage which is later directly discharged into the nearest sewage treatment plant.

In case of a traditional mobile toilet, a pit is normally created on the beach to allow discharge of sewage directly under the sand. The civic body utilises chemicals along with sewage while discharging the latter under the sand.

However, in our vacuum toilet beach toilet, sewage is not discharged under the sand but collected to be later treated in the box itself or pumped into the nearest sewage treatment plant (STP).

Samatech initiated the vacuum toilet project in 2015, and this is the 3rdconsecutive year that the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has invited Samatech to install their cleantech toilet on the beach for this festival.
